I went to the Milwaukee auto show yesterday and got a chance to drive a Range Rover Sport and a Jaguar XF Sportbrake.
The test drive line was non-existent so we basically got to hop right in. I drove the Range Rover first and boy does that thing move when you hit it and it sounds great too. Sooo many electronic aids and gizmos on it, I feel like it would take months to actually learn everything you can do without referring to the manual every time.
Next up was the XF Sportbrake which is just a great looking car. It was comfortable and handled really well. I may have taken a roundabout a bit faster than advised but it was worth it. I would describe the power as perfectly adequate, definitely not punch you in the gut like the Rover. Nor did the engine sound as nice as the Rover’s V8, but that’s understandable. But why, why, why does the Sportbrake start at $23k more than the XF sedan!? That’s insane!
Here’s a pic of the XF, I unfortunately didn’t get a pic of the Range Rover.

I guess I should have been more clear, but you can only get the sportbrake with AWD and the 3.0 supercharged V6, which when optioned that way the sedan is only $4k less. But why can’t I option the sportbrake with 2.0 turbo engine and RWD? Even if it was still $4k more that the sedan it would come in at around $52k.

The XF sedan starts with the base model, whereas the Sportbrake starts mid-trim. If you use comparable trims it’s still a substantial difference, but not as bad as it first seems

I know, that’s what bothers me...why can’t I option the sportbrake with the 2.0 turbo and RWD?

Personally I’d never want the XF, sedan or wagon, with a 4cyl

If I had that kind of money sure I’d much prefer the V6...but the 4 cylinder is still making 250HP which isn’t bad. The way I see it Jaguar is basically telling me that the V6 is a $20k option. And why is RWD not an option on the Sportbrake. I get keeping model variation down to improve factory efficiency, but if I’m paying that kind of money for a car I would like to option how I see fit...also why is green not a color option on their website?
